decent multi-region dvd player for your normal use.

I have tried region 1, 2, 6 and "all region". They all played pretty well. Use of the player is very easy. Except for one thing, the dvd player seems to be an imported one and must use a converter which is included though.

"Bad Disc", "No Disc" After Playing 5 DVD's

I bought this to watch two Region 2 DVD sets I had purchased from Amazon UK. Received this DVD player on July 26, and it was very easy to set up right out of the box. Was able to view the Special Features on two of the Region 2 DVD's. Episodes from two other Region 2 discs and one Region 1 DVD played.

A few days later when I inserted a 6th DVD, it loaded for a long time then the "Bad Disc" message appeared on the screen. I tested the 5 previously played DVD's -- "Bad Disc" for all of them. Powered unit off and back on, still same problem. I inserted a DVD cleaning disc to clean the lens, still "Bad Disc" message for cleaning disc after 5+ cleaning attempts. DVD cleaner disc and Region 1 DVD played in my 4-year old Region 1 Toshiba DVD/VCR player. I tried other Region 1 and Region 2 DVD's, but either got "Bad Disc" or "No Disc", but Region 1 DVD's worked fine in my old Toshiba player.

The positive was being able to view all the Special Features, but I was hopng after reading the reviews that I would be able to see both DVD sets in their entirety before the unit became non-cooperative. Ah, well.

Life Couldn't Get Better

I am a huge Columbo fan. Columbo was an early 70's TV detective show that ran straight up to the year 2000. I bought a complete set (all 12 seasons) of this show. Upon receiving my DVDs I found that I could not watch them because they were a Zone Two product. I was frustrated and was not aware of different Zones. I had a buddy of mine tell me I need a Zone Free DVD Player. So who else would I turn to than Amazon to help me rectify my frustrating issue?

Upon receiving the Toshiba SD-590 All region Multi-Zone Hi-Resolution Progressive Scan DVD/CD Player for worldwide use I was pleasantly surprised. It worked as advertised and now I am able to sit and enjoy the show that made me want to become a cop.

great machine for the price

I bought this machine because there was a DVD of an old surrealistic movie that I wanted to get, and was only available in the European format of PAL. This machine is a multi-region player, and thus can play both PAL and USA's NTSC DVD's. The machine is intelligent; it scans any DVD you put in there and figures out by itself what format the DVD is. The machine works flawlessly, and comes with a remote. I am very happy with this machine. You may consider buying one too, especially if you have relatives overseas that may want to send you wedding or travel video DVD's in their PAL format, etc...

Just past the 45 day window for returns, the player decided that every, absolutely every, disc I entered was a "bad disc" and would not play it. Since there is no way for even Amazon to contact the seller VCT, I will have to buy a new one and send the old one back for a refund from Amazon. At least Amazon will be refunding my money. I am reluctant to buy electronics from Amazon in the future and will never buy a product shipped by VCT. Unfortunately due to the draconian policies set by the film companies and their region coding system no brick and mortar store in my area sells region free devices.
